Critical Facilities Manager
Carl Johns is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in maintenance and HVAC systems. He has served as the Maintenance Superintendent at the University of Florida for 12 years, overseeing complex maintenance operations across the university. Before this role, Carl worked with Kellogg, Brown, and Root (KBR) for 4 years as an HVAC Superintendent in Afghanistan and Iraq, where he managed HVAC installations and maintenance in challenging environments.
Carl’s career also includes 13 years at The State of Florida, Agency for Persons with Disabilities where he specialized as an Electronic/HVAC Technician, gaining hands-on experience in a variety of systems and facilities maintenance.
His foundation in mechanical and engineering systems comes from his 4-year service in the United States Navy as a Gas Turbine Technician, where he developed expertise in gas turbine engines and military-grade systems.
Carl’s educational background includes the Naval Technical Training Engineering School, Santa Fe NCCER HVAC Level 4 Trades School, and the University of Florida's Supervisory Challenge Professional Training. His technical skills and leadership have made him a key figure in facilities management and HVAC system maintenance.
