The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department offers multiple locations in the County where residents can properly and safely dispose of unwanted pharmaceuticals or over-the-counter medications Free of Charge .
Simply take your medications to one of the convenient locations listed below or call the Alachua County Hazardous Waste Collection Center (call 352-334-0440) for more information.
- Flushing medications down the drain can contaminate our water supply
- Medications and personal care products are being detected in water supplies nationally
- Throwing away medication in the trash can lead to accidental swallowing by children and pets or theft.
- Bring your unwanted pharmaceuticals to a participating location and empty medications into the provided disposal container.
- Take your empty container home and remove labels prior to disposal.
- Only products in pill, capsule or liquid form can be accepted.
- The medications will be properly managed as a hazardous waste and will eliminated any environmental concerns.
PLEASE NOTE: Locations in (BLUE) cannot accept controlled substances.
Locations in (RED) can accept controlled substances for proper disposal.
